Strasbourg, France. A regular joint meeting of the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly and the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs took place there.

In his meeting speech, the head of the Permanent delegation of the Ukrainian Parliament to the EURONEST PA Borys Tarasiuk extended his thanks to the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the European Parliament (EP) on the whole for supporting Ukraine on its path to democratic changes and opposing the Russian aggression.

He propped an Eastern Partnership summit report prepared by the EP committee, having indicated the summit would be preceded by the EURONEST PA 6th session, which was scheduled to take place in Kyiv in the late October that year. With a brief view over the preparations, the delegation head voiced his high hopes for success of the summit.

He also called on the European parliamentarians to unite in view of the threats and challenges emanating from Russia. B.Tarasiuk stressed that “it is not the EU and Eastern Partnership countries that rise against Russia -- it’s conversely the Russian Federation that opposes all of us”.

In reply to a MP’s claim regarding the education law recently adopted by Ukraine, Borys Tarasiuk said that any knocks and faultfinding had no grounds as Ukraine had been and always was pursuing a balanced policy of guaranteeing all language rights to the indigenous peoples and ethnic minorities, which could not be said about the three well-known EU countries against the Ukrainian minority group.
