Committee head meets Swedish colleagues

Head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Hanna Hopko held a meeting with the Swedish members of parliament, delegates to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

The 7th September meeting was attended by Kent Harstedt, the Head of the Swedish OSCE delegation, Joran Peterson, a Swedish parliamentarian and a member of the Swedish OSCE delegation, Borys Tarasiuk, the Deputy Head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Svitlana Zalishchuk, the Head of the Subcommittee on Euro-Atlantic Cooperation and Integration at the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, the parties have established a high-level of the Ukraine-Sweden inter-parliamentary cooperation, and, at the same time, they stressed the need in further deepening of the ties, and at the OSCE PA’s level in particular.

Due regard was given to opposition to the Russian aggression in Donbas, to the need in a full restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as to the occupied Crimea problem.

The Ukrainian party set great store by the highly effective OSCE and Riksdag’s support to a peaceful settlement of the Donetsk-Luhansk clash, with the help of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine specifically.

There was a particular stress laid upon the fact that despite a general opposing by the OSCE member countries, the Russian Federation keeps on its aggression against Ukraine, infringing thereby its international obligations and breaking the basics of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.

The Ukrainian side extended its gratitude to the Swedish parliamentarians for the steady backing Ukraine’s efforts in its Euro-integration strivings, established the need in further close collaboration with Sweden in the OSCE format.

The Ukrainian parliamentarians addressed an appeal to their Swedish colleagues to consider boycotting, as far as possible, by the Swedish delegation the regular 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly, taking place on October 14-18 in St Petersburg (the Russian Federation).

While discussing the energy issues, the Ukrainian politicians underscored inadmissibility of the Nord Stream 2 to be launched as it virtually may kill both the EU and Ukraine’s energy security.
