“Implementation of legislative obligations under the EU-UA Association agreement is primarily set to work over during the forthcoming plenary session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,” said the First Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament Iryna Herashchenko at a Conciliation Board’s meeting recently.

She also declared the Parliament and the Cabinet should introduce the NATO and the EU membership criteria to join the fully fledged community in the not too distant future.

“Adherence to the Association agreement benchmarks must be our road map for the time being. The Parliament and the ministers have, to our regret, considerably lagged behind the entire agreement implementation schedule,” noted I.Herashchenko.

The First Deputy Chair highlighted the severe need for an expert appraisal of the laws in force together with the regulatory enactments against the EU standards compliance. With that in view, she called upon the Chairperson of the Parliament to convoke shortly an ad-hoc sitting to monitor the progress in implementing the law commitments under the EU-UA Association accord and to re-arrange positions to that end.

“We are not presently at liberty to drag out upon this big treaty, that is why I am calling on the Parliament’s Speaker to have a special joint meeting in the near future covering parliamentary factions’ heads, the relevant committee’s head and the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration,” underscored Iryna Herashchenko.
