On Tuesday, Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Koshulynskyi met with the co-rapporteur of the PACE Committee on the Honouring of Obligations and Commitments by Member States of the Council of Europe (Monitoring Committee) Mailis Reps.

He stressed that cooperation with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is always extremely important for us, and thanked for the support of Ukraine’s Euro-integrational aspirations on the part of the Assembly.

According to Ruslan Koshulynskyi, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the seventh convocation has adopted a range of laws that draw Ukraine and Ukrainian legislation closer to European standards, particularly the new law on the prosecutor’s office.

Ruslan Koshulynskyi noted also that the Parliament has legislatively secured strengthening of the defense capacity of our country and regulated the issue concerning persons who suffered as a result of the Russian aggression. “It was complicated to refine the existing legislative environment due to a large number of deputies belonging to different ideological positions. However, the war has left the biggest imprint on the work of the Verkhovna Rada, and several laws were adopted on the basis of consensus,” said Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

In the context of introducing reforms in our country, the Parties discussed the issue of amending the Constitution of Ukraine. Ruslan Koshulynskyi expressed hope that the newly elected Parliament will have a common vision for the work on a new version of the Main Law.

In her turn, Mailis Reps claimed that PACE, in case of necessity, is ready to provide expert assessment of the suggested changes to the Constitution. She expressed hope that the new Ukrainian Parliament will defer to the advices of the Assembly.
