Greetings on the occasion of

the Day of Ukraine’s liberation

from fascist invaders

Dear compatriots!

Let me congratulate you on the Day of Ukraine’s liberation from fascist invaders.

Seventy years ago on October 28, 1944 the East Carpathian Strategic Offensive, that lasted for more than two months, has ended. It resulted in liberation of the westernmost part of our state – the Transcarpathian region. More than 20 thousand of men died on our part in the course of the operation. Today we recall the feat of patriots who gave their life so that we could live in the world without war. Eternal glory to them!

There are a lot of speculations around the word “fascism” today. However, true fascism lies in disrespect to human life. It is fascism when a human’s destiny means nothing; when a person is not protected against the outrage of his/her own state; when internal problems are masked behind external aggression; when mass media is being brainwashed and the truth is being distorted. Putin’s regime, that declared a war on us, meets all of these criteria.

Official results of elections, that were held a day before yesterday in Ukraine, have not yet been declared, however, I can confidently say that people voted against fascism, against the forces that financed terrorism and separatism in the East, against those stirring up hostility and ethnic intolerance. People have voted for strong, democratic and European Ukraine.

Seventy years ago we liberated Ukraine from fascist invaders. I am convinced we will do it again today!
