Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov is convinced that a powerful, democratic and patriotic majority will be established in the newly elected Parliament which, the same as the future Government, will be formed by the pro-European forces.

“Ukrainians are wise people and it seems to me that this is the right time to trust those able to work,” said Oleksandr Turchynov in the interview to 24 News TV channel on Wednesday. “I am convinced that such people will be elected to the new Verkhovna Rada that will continue positive shifts brought about at the end of the cadence of the Parliament of the seventh convocation.”

He expressed conviction that the majority should be constitutional. “Then this is a stable majority able to take responsible decisions,” stressed Chairperson of the Parliament, reminding of necessity to amend the Constitution.

He underlined that we need “ideological majority – people united by their views. This is the majority that will ensure the European course of our country.”

“I think that all democratic forces that are concerned about Ukraine and not about their ambitions, will be able to reach an agreement,” said Oleksandr Turchynov, noting that it is inadmissible to be forming the majority during several months, as it was previously, since we should carry out wide-ranging reforms in all spheres and from the Government as soon as possible.

Responding to the question regarding negotiation process on coalition agreement in the Verkhovna Rada of the next convocation, Oleksandr Turchynov expressed an idea that it is untimely to talk about it. “We do not know what political forces will cross a five per cent threshold,” he explained, adding that it is complicated to predict the “architecture of the future Parliament today.”

According to the Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada, it will be possible to talk about this only after the Central Election Commission announces election results. “As soon as the Central Election Commission announces preliminary election results, this is a sign for signing the coalition agreement,” he said.
