We have an enormous potential for renewing law enforcement agencies, and primarily the Internal Affairs Ministry of Ukraine. Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine claimed this during the extended meeting of the collegium of the Internal Affairs Ministry of Ukraine, where the concept of reforming this institution is being discussed.
Oleksandr Turchynov stressed that “there is a colossal reserve of trained staff for that” – officers of the National Guard of Ukraine, volunteer battalions and MIA special operations soldiers who “showed themselves heroes when performing their constitutional duties and military actions in the ATO zone.”
Apart from this, Oleksandr Turchynov stressed that it is easy to lose respect but it is quite complicated to regain it. In this context, he expressed hope that the Internal Affairs Ministry, that has already initiated structural far-reaching reforming, will regain respect and trust of the society. “And our citizens will perceive MIA representatives not as a threat for themselves but as reliable defenders of life, rights, property and the rule of law,” he said.
Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada expressed conviction that the topic of today’s discussion “will become a guide and a real action plan for the nearest future, and will also become a practical part of our life, instead of remaining a theoretic achievement.”
