Chairperson of the Committee on Environmental Policy, Nature Resources Utilization and Elimination of the Consequences of Chornobyl Catastrophe Mykola Tomenko met with experts in the field of environment and natural resource use

Experts and community impress on the necessity to restore executive power vertical in the sphere of environment and nature resource use. This issue was discussed during the meeting of the Chairperson of the Committee on Environmental Policy, Nature Resources Utilization and Elimination of the Consequences of Chornobyl Catastrophe Mykola Tomenko with experts in the field of environment and natural resource use.

Participants of the meeting discussed state policy in the abovementioned sphere and expressed concern about the so-called administrative reform of Yanukovych period during which the system for implementing state policy in the environmental sector at regional level was actually destroyed.

Thus, even the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine that is the central body of executive body, practically has no instruments to implement their decisions at local level.

Mykola Tomenko informed that the specializing Committee of the Verkhovna Rada will monitor structural and staff changes taking place within the Ministry of Ecology.

Chairperson of the Committee invited experts and participants of the meeting to actively participate in the Committee’s hearings entitled: “Analysis of the nature reserve fund of Ukraine” scheduled for February 4, and parliamentary hearings on withdrawing from service Chornobyl NPP and “Ukryttia” object, as well as prospects for the development of exclusion zone, scheduled for March 4.

Petro Hozhyk (Director of the Institute of Geological Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine), Volodymyr Boreiko (Director of Kyiv Eco-Cultural Center), Oleh Lystopad (expert at “EkoPravo-Kyiv”), Andrii Nelipa (President of the All-Ukrainian Union “Society of Fishermen of Ukraine”), and others were in attendance at the meeting.
