Prior to the plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on January 27, the Committee held an extraordinary meeting devoted to consideration of a range of bills on information security.

The MPs exchanged ideas concerning the draft law on amendments to the Law “On Television and radio Broadcasting” (re participation of foreigners in television organizations) (Reg. No. 1768), referred by the people’s deputies Andrii Levus, Serhii Vysotskyi, and Mykola Velychkovych.

Following the results of consideration, the Committee took a unanimous decision to recommend the Verkhovna Rada include the bill into the plenary agenda and adopt it in the first reading as a basis.

Further on, parliamentarians considered the draft law on amendments to several laws of Ukraine re increasing sanctions against license-holders for violation of television and radio broadcasting legislation (Reg. No. 1824) aiming to counteract informational aggression against Ukraine. The bill was elaborated under the authorship of the people’s deputies Viktoriia Siumar, Dmytro Stetsenko, Oleksandr Opanasenko and Volodymyr Ariev. 

Committee members voted unanimously for including the abovementioned bill into the agenda of the plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, and adopting it in the first reading as a basis.

At the end of the meeting, Committee considered the address of the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine re referring the bill on reforming state and communal print media (Reg. No. 1123), submitted by the people’s deputies of Ukraine M.Tomenko and O.Abdullin, to the Council of Europe for expert study. The Committee took the decision to urgently address Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine with the respective submission.
