Meeting was held at the request of Cyprian Party. Tetiana Ostrikova, member of the Committee on Taxation and Customs Policy, also participated in the meeting.
The Parties discussed the issues on the state and prospects of developing bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Cyprus, as well as refining and broadening the existing international treaty framework between both states.
In the context of the chosen strategic Euro-integrational course of our state, Hanna Hopko stressed Ukraine’s interest in deepening inter-parliamentary cooperation with the Republic of Cyprus, which is member of the European Union. She informed Cyprian Ambassador that the process of forming deputy friendship group on inter-parliamentary relations with the Republic of Cyprus in the Verkhovna Rada should be finished in the nearest time.
On his part, Ambassador of Cyprus informed that Cyprian Parliament will consider the issue of ratification of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement in January 2015, and expressed hope for successful voting of Cyprian MPs on this issue.
The Parties exchanged ideas regarding the necessity of improving provisions of the Convention between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Cyprus on avoiding double taxation and preventing tax evasions with respect to income tax and a Protocol to it, signed in 2012.
On his part, Vassos Chamberlain noted that tourism is one of the most dynamic branches of not only economic but also cultural direction. Cyprian Embassy has issued more than 70 thousand visas in electronic manner this year. He stressed also that within the framework of EU, Cyprus actively stands for canceling visa regime with Ukraine.
At the end of the meeting, Committee Chair thanked Cyprian Ambassador for broad support provided by the Republic of Cyprus on the international arena during this complicated period for Ukraine. Particularly, for the support of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty on the part of the Republic of Cyprus and non-recognition of illegitimate Crimea's accession to the Russian Federation.
