“The transfer to the military of Ukraine of equipment to monitor security situation is an important practical step of support to our state by NATO,” -- Iryna Herashchenko

On December 13, the First Vice-Speaker Iryna Herashchenko, who is in Brussels as part of a Ukrainian delegation headed by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, said that NATO would soon supply the Ukrainian military forces with equipment designed to monitor security situation, in particular, in the waters of the Azov and Black Seas. This information became apparent after Petro Poroshenko's meeting with the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

According to the First Vice-Speaker, during the meeting of Poroshenko and Stoltenberg there were discussed the act of aggression committed by Russia in the neutral waters of the Black Sea on November 25, the situation with the mass human rights violations in the occupied Crimea, a long-term Russian aggression in the Donbas and Russia’s failure to meet its commitments under the Minsk agreements. The Head of State expressed his hope for further strengthening of sanctions against Russia over its lasting aggression against Ukraine.

During the joint press conference, Petro Poroshenko informed that he had passed on to the Secretary General lists of the Russian persons and war ships involved in the notorious act of aggression in the Black Sea.

The parties also discussed political and practical support of Ukraine. In particular, it became known about NATO's intention to transfer more equipment to Ukrainian servicemen in the near future and to strengthen cooperation upon humanitarian demining through NATO's trust funds, with the use of mechanisms provided for by the recently adopted law of Ukraine "On mine action in Ukraine".
