Herashchenko, Kent debate on release of Kremlin’s hostages, political and war prisoners

On December 3, there has been an ample debate between Iryna Herashchenko, the First Deputy Chairperson of the Parliament, and George P. Kent, the Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS), EUR, U.S. Department of State for Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, over liberation of prisoners of war (POW), hostages and political prisoners of the Kremlin

During the meeting, the interlocutors discussed the security situation in the Donbas and mass violation of the human rights in the occupied Crimea. Particular attention was paid to regional security issues throughout the Black and Azov Seas’ waters, including the notorious Kerch Strait seizure.

The debaters discussed peculiarities of the martial law legal regime introduced in ten oblasts of Ukraine and internal waters of the Azov-Kerch aquatory. They also exchanged views over the release of the Ukrainian navy men grabbed by the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation.

The new DAS George Kent emphasized that the United States remained a reliable partner of Ukraine in protecting its territorial integrity and sovereignty.

During the meeting, I. Herashchenko informed G. Kent about the course of Ukraine’s reforms and the creation of the veterans’ affairs ministry in charge of the state policy on social protection of veterans of war and ATO/JFO participants, ensuring their adaptation and psychological rehabilitation.

The meeting was also attended by Mariia Ionova, the deputy head of the Committee on European Integration and Marie L. Jovanovitch, the United States Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine.
