“The Ministry of Temporarily Occupied Territories and IDPs has triggered rendering assistance to families of the Kremlin’s hostages and political prisoners,” – Iryna Herashchenko

On 9 November, there was a meeting of the First Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the representative of the TCG’s humanitarian sub-group Iryna Herashchenko and the Ukrainian minister for the temporarily occupied territories and internally displaced persons Vadym Chernysh.

They discussed social and legal assistance to families of hostages and political prisoners of the Kremlin.

The minister said the ministry is in readiness for payments to the families and then informed that members of such families are now kindly requested to file relevant applications for consideration by the interagency commission established under the ministry.

Vadym Chernysh confirmed he is ready to render all necessary assistance to such families and stressed his willingness for cooperation with NGOs on the issue.

During the meeting the parties also discussed social rehabilitation of illegally detained Ukrainians. This issue is dealt with by local authorities at the expense of the appropriate state budget programmes, whose owner is the Ministry of Temporarily Occupied Territories and IDPs of Ukraine.
