The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy opened the morning plenary session.

With cheers greeted members of parliament the Ukrainian delegates to the PACE with their important victory at the autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly.

A.Parubiy highlighted that these days do see “verily historic events” taking place and congratulated everyone on the Ecumenical Patriarchate Synod’s decision to grant autocephaly to the Local Orthodox Ukrainian Church.

He then announced two new parliamentarians, Oleksandr Hulak and Ivan Savka, who had been recently registered by the Central Election Commission and included in the voting lists of their parties. The newcomers administered the oath to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

The presiding officer gave then the floor to representatives of the parliamentary factions and groups to make their announcements, statements, reports, and proposals. After the speeches, parliamentarians switched over to reviewing the issues according to the business of the day.

The parliamentarians entered into discussion over having up O.Vilkul, MP. After due consideration, the final voting gave only 137 ayes for his arraignment, thus de jure rejecting the prosecutor general’s motion.

 

The presiding officer closed the meeting.
