Hanna Hopko meets US foreign affairs colleagues

( Information Department of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariat )

The head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Hanna Hopko held a meeting with committeemen of the United States House Committee on Foreign Affairs of the United States House of Representatives of the US Congress.

Alongside Ukraine’s ambassador Valerii Chalyi, the committee head Hanna Hopko had a meeting with Ted Poe and Dina Titus, the representatives of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

Gratitude was expressed to the American lawmakers for the unvarying bipartisan solidarity with Ukraine, including the recent draft resolution initiated by Congressman Ted Poe confirming the support by the United States of America of Ukraine’s political sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Talking about the joint fight against Russia’s disinformation and propaganda, Ukraine’s ambassador asked the congressmen to support taking a this year's resolution on the recognition of the 1932-1933 Holodomor in Ukraine as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people.

Particular heed was paid during the meeting to the need of exerting a heavier pressure on Russia internationally, specifically with regard to discharging the Kremlin’s political detainees.

The Ukrainian side also emphasized the importance of keeping the US’s leadership in consolidating transatlantic interaction in countering Russian threats, especially in energy and cyber-security areas.
