Committee on State Building, Regional Policy and Local Self-Government

The committee corroborates renaming Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovohrad oblasts.  The appropriate name-changing bills No.8329 and 8380 were reviewed at the committee meeting on June 20.

The new names – Sicheslav oblast and Kropyvnytskyi oblast correspondingly – are to be entered in the Constitution of Ukraine.

Adoption of these bills will allow it to complete the process of de-communization of the names of the administrative-territorial units of Ukraine, will promote the revival of the Ukrainian national identity, and will emphasize the importance of the regions as modern outposts of the Ukrainian statehood, which both have made significant contributions to repulsing the Russian aggression and preserving Ukraine’s territorial integrity. The Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance has also seconded this initiative by sending the committee a special letter containing relevant historical notes about the both oblasts mentioned.

Together with the Committee on Legal Policy and Justice, the committee commends the Parliament to consider the both bills, and then send them to the Constitutional Court of Ukraine to consummate the matter.
