“For Ukraine, presence of the aggressor state’s representatives in the peacekeeping mission is totally unacceptable,” – Iryna Herashchenko

On April 19, a regular meeting of the informal parliamentary group "The Minsk Platform" took place with the participation of the Director of the Eurasia Center under the US Atlantic Council John E. Herbst.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Iryna Herashchenko, the First Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Presidential Envoy for the peaceful settlement of the Donetsk-Luhansk clashes.

The First Vice-Speaker Iryna Herashchenko thanked the colleagues for unity in search for peace for the Donbas and informed the American politician about the work of the informal group "The Minsk Platform", on the security and humanitarian situation in the Donbas, and on the environmental problems that arose as a result of the armed aggression against Ukraine.

The participants of the meeting discussed the prospects and format of the UN peacekeeping mission in the Donbas. Iryna Herashchenko stressed thereupon that Ukraine sees presence of the aggressor state’s puppets in the UN peacekeeping mission to be utterly inadmissible.

According to John Herbst, the European Union and the United States must clearly understand that the predatory actions of the Russian Federation are a real threat to global security.

The meeting was formatted for a joint discussion with the members of parliament and certain Ukrainian representatives of the Minsk TCG’s working groups.
