Restoration of control over the Ukrainian-Russian border is a formula of security not only of Ukraine but also of the whole Europe, First Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada / Deputy Chair of the Ukraine-NATO Interparliamentary Council Iryna Heraschenko said at the meeting with Deputy Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Rose Gottemoeller in Brussels (the Kingdom of Belgium).

At the meeting, present Ukrainian parliamentarians noted the priority of the security element of the issue of occupied Donbas and Crimea and provided data on violation of human rights by representatives of illegal armed groups.

The members of the Ukrainian Parliament also presented facts of violations of the ceasefire regime by pro-Russian militants in Donbas and drew attention to the fact that the mode of observance rendered by the Special Monitoring Mission of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe requires significant improvement and technical enhancement, in particular, with the help of drones and surveillance cameras in the temporarily occupied territories.

Besides the parties discussed immediate release of Ukrainian hostages held in the temporarily occupied territories.

The working visit was also dedicated to the discussion of a number of important issues in particular, deepening of cooperation with NATO in the field of environmental protection.

Deputy Secretary General of NATO Rose Gottemoeller praised Ukraine's successful implementation of the project on installation of new safe confinement over the fourth power unit of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant.

Another important issue discussed with the Deputy Secretary General of NATO was the energy reform in particular, the fight for energy independence of Ukraine.

Rose Gottemoeller assured Ukraine of NATO's further assistance in implementation of important reforms.
