On September 17-18, 2016, members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the British Parliament paid a visit to Donetsk region.

The participants in the visit were nine representatives of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the British Parliament, co-chairs of the parliamentary deputy group on relations with Britain: Svitlana Zalishchuk, Oleksii Riabchyn and a member of the friendship group, Serhii Leschenko.

Ukrainian and British parliamentarians visited the towns of Kramatorsk, Sloviyansk and Bakhmut, took part in the meetings with representatives of the Dnipro regional military-civil administration, local military leadership, talked to the residents of Donetsk and Luhansk regions and observers of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). The British parliamentarians also met with the leadership and students of the Horlivka Institute for Foreign Languages, which moved from the town of Horlivka to Bakhmut in view of the Russia's aggression.

The visit was dedicated to the elaboration of a report to be the basis of recommendations to the British Government on formation of further policy on relations with the Russian Federation. Members of the Ukrainian Parliament showed the proof of the Russian aggression in the territory of Donbas to their British colleagues and provided them with the evidence of the hybrid war held by the Ukraine's northern neighbor.

On September 18, Kyiv hosted a meeting of the British delegation with the group of friendship with Britain. Besides, the British MPs took part in a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Co-chair of the deputy group, Svitlana Zalishchuk, noted that an important result of the visit to the east of Ukraine was the fact that the British MPs personally saw "who the real aggressor and the victim are." She also expressed hope that Britain would intensify its work on counteraction to the Russian aggression and insist on further sanctions against the Kremlin in the international arena.

Co-chair of the group, Oleksii Riabchyn, also noted the importance of the said visit. He noted that most remarkable for the British MPs was the meeting with the leadership and students of the Horlivka Institute, who do not lose their optimism and continue hoping for restoration of peace despite the Russian aggression.
