First Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Iryna Heraschenko had a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova for reintegration Gheorghe Balan.

The Parties pointed out the necessity for intensification of the interparliamentary cooperation between the two countries, in particular, at the level of the parliamentary committees and groups of friendship. They also advocated fruitful cooperation between the parliamentary delegations within the framework of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and called for seeking new forms of interparliamentary transfrontier cooperation.

The major topics discussed at the meeting were the security issues, settlement of the situation in Donbas, and Transnistria problems.

The First Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada informed about the escalation in the east of Ukraine. She noted that Ukraine needs the deployment of an international armed police mission in Donbas and restoration of the control over the Ukrainian-Russian border to demilitarize the occupied territories.

Iryna Heraschenko also called unacceptable gradual lifting of the sanctions against the Russian Federation unless all the provisions of the Minsk accords are fulfilled. She also informed that the political prisoners release from the custody in Russia has been blocked. "We have to raise pressure on the Russian Federation to release all the hostages," Heraschenko said.

She also expressed confidence that the European partners have to introduce the visa-free regime for the Ukrainians.

Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan informed about the situation in Moldova, negotiations on the settlement of the Transnistria conflict in the 5+2 format and expressed hope that the Ukrainian constructive position would facilitate the settlement of the conflict.

Besides, the Parties discussed possible consequences of the British referendum for Ukraine and Moldova and expressed concerns over its results. At the same time, Heraschenko and Balan confirmed striving of Ukraine and Moldova for European integration and reforms.
