Today, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Spain to Ukraine Gerardo Angel Bugallo Ottone met with the interns within the framework of the Internship Program at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

The Ambassador touched the issue of sociopolitical transformations in Ukraine over the recent years. He noted that Ukraine is now witnessing the shift to inclusive political institutions, which contributes to the development of the civil society.

Besides, Gerardo Angel Bugallo Ottone mentioned the role of Spain in the development of the civilization. Several centuries ago, the borders of the world were broadened twice thanks to Spain.

In speaking of the visa-free regime with the European Union, the Ambassador said: "Legal security is a very important issue. Foreign investors and citizens will actively cross the border only when the level of security is sufficiently high. Ukraine's major task is to guarantee such security."

The interns had an opportunity to ask the Ambassador several questions inter alia about Spanish culture as well as about modern political process in Ukraine and in the world.

Reference information: Gerardo Angel Bugallo Ottone was born in Madrid on September 21, 1954. He has served as diplomat since 1984. He worked at the Embassy of Spain to Algeria, Hungary and the United States. He was the vice-president of the Foreign Affairs Ministry department for North America. He also was a culture advisor at the Embassy of Spain to Japan. He worked as an adviser at the Cabinet of the Prime Minister of Spain. In 2002-2004, he was the director general for foreign policy for the Asia Pacific region and North America at the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Spain. In 2004, he became a deputy permanent representative of Spain to the United Nations in Geneva (Switzerland). He was consul general of Spain in Sydney. Since 2013, he has been Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Spain to Ukraine.
