Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Industrial Policy and Entrepreneurship Viktor Halasiuk took part in the III meeting of the Ukraine's part of the European Union - Ukraine Parliamentary Association Committee in Brussels (Belgium) on April 24-25.

"Over the first two months of 2016, the Ukraine-EU commodity export indicator decreased by 39.8% as against the same period of 2015," he said within the framework of his report entitled "Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area: Expectations, Results and Prospects." According to the parliamentarian, the reasons should be found among external and internal factors. "Certain negative part was played by tariff and non-tariff barriers at the international level. Seven of 36 quotas Ukraine was provided with were used in full during the first three months of 2016. At the same time, the exportation of 19 commodity groups, which received quotas, never started in view of too high non-tariff barriers," the Chairperson of the Committee said.

In turn, at the local level, such dynamics was a result of corruption, ineffective taxation system, lack of affordable loans and monopolized access to power lines.

According to Halasiuk, negotiations on revision of tariff quotas for domestic commodities and the liberalization of tariff and non-tariff trade barriers should be organized to intensify commercial relations with the EU.
