On 9 April 2024, the Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation held a meeting to discuss Ukraine's cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean and to consider draft laws aimed at strengthening trade and economic cooperation with Canada and bringing Ukraine's legal framework in line with the national interests of our country.
The Committee recommends that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approve:
the Draft Law on Withdrawal from the Agreement on Principles of Collection of Indirect Taxes on Exports and Imports of Goods (Works, Services) between the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States (No. 0239), submitted by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. Approval of the draft law is due to the fact that Ukraine has not been participating in the implementation of the said Agreement for a long time. Due to the support by some CIS member states of the armed aggression of the russian federation, the termination of the Agreement will bring the legal framework of Ukraine in relations with the CIS in line with the current realities of international relations.
the Draft Law on Ratification of the Free Trade Agreement between Ukraine and Canada (No. 0242), submitted by the President of Ukraine. The agreement, signed on 22 September 2023 in Ottawa, is aimed at liberalising markets, which will revive trade and economic cooperation between Ukraine and Canada. Adoption of the Law of Ukraine in the future will expand markets for Ukrainian goods and contribute to the development and modernisation of Ukrainian business. The Committee proposes to approve the draft law as amended by the Committee.
As part of the discussion of Ukraine's cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean, the Committee members heard a presentation by the responsible Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine for the region and decided to continue to promote contacts with the countries of the region in line with Ukraine's national interests.
The meeting also discussed organisational issues, in particular, the dismissal and appointment of freelance consultants to the Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation.
