Despite russia's war against Ukraine, agrarians are conducting spring sowing to ensure food security, the Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy reports.

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, 14 regions have started sowing spring crops. As of 14 March 2024, 128.1 thou hectares of grains and pulses were sown in Ukraine. Of these, 12.9 thou hectares of wheat, 69.6 thou hectares of barley, 41.5 thou hectares of peas and 3.7 thou hectares of oats.

The largest amounts were sown in the following regions:

- Odesa region – a total of 43 thousand hectares. This includes 1,000 hectares of wheat, 23.3 thousand hectares of barley, 17.7 thousand hectares of peas and 1,000 hectares of oats;

- In Mykolaiv region – 1.1 thousand hectares of wheat, 17.9 thousand hectares of barley, 12.6 thousand hectares of peas and 0.5 thousand hectares of oats;

- in Ternopil region – 2.6 thousand hectares of wheat, 10.4 thousand hectares of barley and 1 thousand hectares of peas;

- in Dnipro region – 2.3 thousand hectares of wheat, 4.9 thousand hectares of barley and 1.69 thousand hectares of peas;

- Vinnytsia region – 2.8 thousand hectares of wheat, 2.3 thousand hectares of barley and 2 thousand hectares of peas;

- in Khmelnytsky region – 0.6 thousand hectares of wheat, 2.8 thousand hectares of barley, 0.2 thousand hectares of peas and 0.4 thousand hectares of oats.

Also, according to the Department of Agricultural Development and Land Relations of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, in 2024, farmers will sow 337,000 hectares of land in Donetsk Oblast. In particular, 170.5 thousand hectares will be planted with grain crops, 137 thousand hectares with industrial crops, 22.5 thousand hectares with vegetables, melons and potatoes, and 7 thousand hectares with fodder crops.

It is noted that in autumn 2023, the agrarians of Donetsk region sowed winter crops (wheat and barley) on an area of 104 thousand hectares. In addition, 16 thousand hectares of winter rape were sown.
