In order to commemorate the feat, mass heroism and resilience of citizens displayed in the defence of their cities during the repulsion of the armed aggression of the russian federation against Ukraine, on 6 March 2022, the following cities were awarded the honorary insignia "Hero City of Ukraine" by the Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 111/2022:
- Volnovakha,
- Hostomel,
- Mariupol,
- Kharkiv,
- Kherson,
- Chernihiv.
Two years ago, the heroic defence of these cities by our defenders allowed Ukraine to survive the first days of the enemy's full-scale invasion of its territory.
Volnovakha, Hostomel, Mariupol, Kharkiv, Kherson, Chernihiv and hundreds of other Ukrainian cities and towns have become symbols of unbreakable courage and true outposts of the invincible Ukrainian spirit, and have once again underlined that villages, towns and cities are not just geographical concepts, but also the heart and soul of the country, whose citizens are always ready to defend its freedom and independence.
